Theodore L. Craft
Theodore Craft practices complex civil and criminal tax litigation, with a focus on white collar criminal tax defense. He represents individuals and organizations involved as targets, subjects, or witnesses in state and federal criminal investigations and related grand jury and pre-trial proceedings. He also represents clients in federal tax controversies and complex civil tax matters. His career began in public accounting [Price Waterhouse-Coopers] prior to 12 years of service in Government as a trial lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice Tax Division in Washington, D.C. and in Boston, Massachusetts. He has practiced privately in tax law for 26 years.
Attorney Craft was trained in service as a trial lawyer in the Office of the Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, National Office, and the Department of Justice, Tax Division. In service as associate counsel in Tax Refund Litigation in the Office of Chief Counsel, IRS National Office, Washington, D.C., he was liaison to the Department of Justice Tax Division, Civil Trial Section, developing complex national tax litigation positions and strategies and participating in bringing three cases to the United States Supreme Court. He was later trained in prosecuting and evaluating complex financial crimes in the Tax Division, Criminal Enforcement Section. After leaving Washington, D.C. to become Senior Trial Attorney in the Boston office of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel he served on the Federal Strike Force Against Organized Crime, assisting the Department of Justice in investigating and prosecuting tax crimes committed in an area of Boston then known as "The Combat Zone," and since revitalized as a safe area for theaters and the arts, affluent high-rise apartments and popular restaurants, all in the vicinity of the Boston Common.
